The Standard Household Salad

The Standard Household Salad

I have a couple of reasons for researching new recipes, or creating my own dishes. One of those is my need to cook something new and healthy, or just new 0_o and tasty. The other reason, which is much more annoying is of course, guess

Cookies in picnic mood…

Cookies in picnic mood…

Well, Cookies never was subtle, and this time he used friends on FB to poke me in the eye and make me write another post. And yeah, he succeeded 0_o. So, couple weeks ago, we were entertaining in the Burrow, yeah since we moved

Magda’s Sweet & Sour Pork

Magda’s Sweet & Sour Pork

Sweet&sour Chix

When Cookies told me he took pork chops of the freezer I was like… WTF loin cutlets AGAIN??? I thought I won’t manage another typical meal and I started thinking what to prepare… I looked at PINTEREST for some ideas and saw recipe for pork with pineapples which reminded me couple years ago I created my own sweet & sour pork. That thought relaxed me and made me look into cooking tonight with a grin on my face.

Of course by mistake the whole meal become pork with a bite 😉 I used spicy ketchup and I mean a really spicy one which caused the sauce to be really hot, but still very eatable.

Work Food part 2

My own marinade recipe

My own marinade recipe

I have tremendous problems lately with motivation. It’s very hard to make myself to do anything… so I’m looking for meals that really don’t take too much time or more –God forbid– effort 0_o. Yes I know, it’s bad but… things like that just happens,

Neverending Astonishment

Neverending Astonishment

From the moment I tried asian food I knew these flavours are for me. I love the idea of few base ingredients that builds taste and additional ingredients finishing it. This time I found easy recipe for asian egg noodles fried with pork. Original recipe seemed poor on the veggie front so I changed it a little bit. Of course original base is with spring onions but I didn’t feel like going to the field store, so I used red onion. It’s a delicate meal but full of surprises. At the same time easy to make.

Getting Harder…

Getting Harder…

Getting harder… As I mentioned lately it’s really hard to get new recipes for chix breasts that can be done without oven. But I’m tough and I did it… again 0_o. I found this idea on some kind of site that offered base asian recipes.

Gorgonzola Salad As I mentioned some time ago, I like to buy products just because I feel like it, then I look for the recipe to utilize my purchase 0_o. This time it was gorgonzola – a nice green, stinky cheese. While trying to find

Mongolian Style Beef

Mongolian Style Beef

Mongolian Style Beef

Couple weeks ago I joined Pinterest cos I saw awesome DIY ideas, that even me, a clumsy two left handed creature can do 0_o. As I spent more time on the site I found of course more categories of pins, where one of course was FOOOOD :P. Nothing new or weird. I started browsing and found this interesting recipe for beef meal.

The pin on the Pinterest led me to blogchef.net where I could read and learn how to make this incredibly tasty dish. Of course had to change some things cos of our likes and dislikes but the end result is 95% of the original recipe I believe. I served it with my favourite basmati rice and steamed broccoli florets. I have this nice rustic asian bamboo basket for steaming food, it’s really neat, cos I could place it over boiling rice and steam it along.

Ingredients:

500g (1 lb) beef flank steak (polish łata) I got only boneless beef thigh)
2 tbsp potato or corn starch
2 tsp oil
½ tsp fresh ginger
1 tsp garlic powder
½ cup soy sauce
½ cup water
2 flat tbsp brown sugar
2 tbsp rice wine (mirin) or just white wine vinegar
½ tsp cayenne pepper
1 medium onion
Oil for deep frying

Preparations:
Flush the meat under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels. Cut it against the grain into not too thick slices, the best would be one or two bites size. Put it into a bowl and sprinkle with the starch and set aside for at least 10 minutes. Make sure you won’t skip this step, because it’s very important for the rest of the meal.

While waiting for the beef, prepare the sweet-spicy-sour mixture. In the saucepan add 2 tbsp. of oil – heat up. Peel with a spoon (learned from Pascal Brodnicki) ginger and grade it on the small edges of a shredder. Toss into pot along with a garlic powder, stir fry for 10s. Add soy sauce, rice wine or vinegar and water. After another 10s add brown sugar, stir to make sure sugar dissolves in the liquid. Add cayenne pepper and boil for another 2-3 minutes, then set aside.

In the frying pan with high sides or a wok add a good amount of oil and heat it on high heat. Put meat in and deep fry for 3-5 minutes – it should be brown and crispy. After the meat is done, drain it on paper towels.

Remove most of the oil from the pan, leave like 2 teaspoons. Cut onion into feather like pieces and put into the pan and stir fry for 2 minutes, put the meat in and pour the sauce mixture. Boil until the sauce thickens and starts bubbling.

Enjoy awesome meal 😉

Until next time, take care of yourself and each other 0_o.

P.S. Cookies thoughts: Seriously MORE, MOAR, and MORE? 🙂 this was spectacular and that is being modest… I loved it.
